CTRM Conference – What You Will Learn

The CTRM Conference is on October 5th in Amsterdam. This year we are co-hosted with EMART but in no way does this mean we are focussed on energy. We are simply using the good people at Synergy to help us with facility, organization and so on. Our agenda is around the topic of disruptive technologies in the CTRM space.

We will commence with a keynote by Rob Pringle. Rob is well known in the industry having previously been CIO at a large gas company and he is now consulting through his own vehicle to a large oil and gas company. Known for his insightful observations around IT and commodity trading, Rob will introduce us to the topic of disruptive technologies as they apply to our space. Rob is followed by Greg Keers who is flying in from South Africa to present. Greg was one of the co-founders of KWI, a British ETRM software vendor of a few years ago. His interest in now deployment and development and he will give us a presentation on deployment and roll out of disruptive technologies.

After a networking break, we will resume with Dr. Tywuschik of Baringa Partners to learn more about what is going on in power intra-day markets in terms of automated and algo trading and how this may be rolled out across commodity markets in general. Algo trading, machine learning and automated trading are a very powerful example of how technology will disrupt commodity trading in the near future. The morning will finish with a roundtable panel managed by Rob Pringle around the disruptive technology theme. Panel members will include the mornings speakers, Richard Williamson and Saurabh Goyal.

After lunch, we will resume with a presentation by Saurabh Goyal on blockchain – yet another technology that threatens to disrupt the CTRM and related software space. This is followed by a look at mining social media for trade signals and sentiment analysis from Moritz Volland of DataGenic. The oil price sentiment analysis work that DataGenic has done will prove to be very interesting to delegates I am sure! The data theme will continue with Alex Lamb looking at big data and how to use it.

After an afternoon networking session, we return with a joint presentation from Alex Vandenberg of COFCO and Matt Barrett of Adaptive Financial Consulting to look at  digital business platforms and the commodity trader of the future before wrapping up with an overview from Patrick and I and then a final panel discussion around CTRM in the cloud.

There might well be one more presentation – a surprise – on the trading floor of the future… once it is confirmed we will announce it.
