capSpire’s Trust and Expertise Reputation Differentiates It Says Global CEO

capSpire was founded in 2006 by two independent consultants who saw the E/CTRM space as unique and very specialized. They believed that it required specific expertise as opposed to a more traditional consulting approach and started capSpire. It now has over 300 specialists operating out of multiple locations across the world. capSpire provides a variety of technology services to energy and commodity clients like Advisory, Systems Delivery, and Operations and Support.

Recently, global CEO, Jim Kiser, took a few moments out of his schedule to talk to me about capSpire and its unique position in the market. He told me that capSpire has a “desire to operate with a high level of trust and competency with our clients.” Indeed, he sees these attributes very much as differentiators for the firm. “capSpire has evolved with a level of expertise and experience that makes it unique, and we managed early on to recruit and retain professionals with a high-level of years of experience from vendors like RightAngle, Allegro, and OpenLink.” (Now all ION brands.)

He also explained some of the firm’s history to me. The first five years were US-focused, he told me. But by 2015, the firm started to grow in Europe and that market now represents around 40% of its business. Jim joined the firm in 2021 with a successful track record in and around CTRM software with a view to continuing that expansion and global growth. “Energy and commodities are a global market, and we need a global footprint to engage with clients in their focus areas,” he told me. These days capSpire has operations in locations like Calgary, Houston, Cork, London, Dubai, India, Sydney and Singapore amongst other locations. “capSpire can support clients globally or indeed drop in specialized, local expertise as required,” he said.

With a focus on a high-level of trust and expertise, capSpire has largely grown through word of mouth.  Now, Jim has set his sights on leveraging capSpire’s reputation and differentiators to become ‘top of mind’. “Our vision is to be the go-to brand and trusted advisor in the E/CTRM space,” he said. He points to E/CTRMs as mission critical solutions that are often operated within a distinct area of IT. “They require a high-level of integration and support and capSpire are experts in these packages and areas around them.” capSpire is continually adding expertise in other E/CTRMs mentioning Aspect as one example.

capSpire is also following the evolution of commodity trading and has a presence in Singapore where it is building up its support services in the region and has just opened a presence in Dubai as well – two very active locations for commodities these days. “Q1 was a period where we ramped up in these emerging locations specifically,” he told me. So far, growth has been organic, but it would consider an acquisition if there was the right cultural fit, he added. However, Jim certainly sees trust and expertise as capSpires’ crown jewels and maintaining its reputation is a strong priority for him.
