Enuit Focused on Delivering an Agile Platform
Mu Fang, Enuit’s Global Pre-Sales and Services Director, was keen to tell me why he thinks Enuit is well positioned to help its clients through today’s unpredictable and volatile commodity markets. Pointing to things like Trump’s tariffs, the future for Russian gas, Europe’s energy uncertainty and much more, we agreed that geopolitics is driving commodities more and more. This means that your E/CTRM had better be agile and able to allow users to respond quickly to change and uncertainty, he told me. This requires flexibility to adapt, and that the adaption can be done rapidly.
Mu points to the underlying design of Enuit’s Entrade as being key to its ability to be flexible and adaptable and he believes this to be a key differentiator. In essence, he explained that Entrade is set up to be highly configurable and so something like adding a new commodity or trade instrument doesn’t require new code – just a configuration tweak. He also told me that they have built in greater modelling capabilities that allow changes to be made rapidly in areas like forecasting, compliance, reporting and so on. “You have to have a very flexible system,” he said. “Enuit provides a generalized structure to be able to allow users and implementors to configure for industry change. This even extends to changing the UI to capture additional data items,” he said.
Mu also pointed to a reporting model and framework that allows flexibility in terms of how reports are configured and generated. “There is a great deal of freedom in terms of what can be configured,” he said pointing out that in his view, “Entrade is built on a configurable framework.” Several other vendors also offer configurability, models and frameworks to aid with agility. However, Mu believes that Enuit goes farther than many others.
Another area we discussed was the ability to perform what-if analysis, scenario and stress testing. We are in an era where historical trends often break down and new paradigms are created (think post-nuclear power prices in Germany for example). We are also in an era of uncertainty that means traders and risk managers need to perform various sorts of what-if analysis or stress test portfolios and so on. Here, Mu is also confident that Entrade has the tools needed to support users through volatility and change.
The world of E/CTRM is very broad. For ComTech, the final arbiter of flexibility is the end user, and this will depend on many incremental issues like geography, commodities traded, strategies, regulations and so on. Mu described to us many innovative design concepts and models that Enuit have deployed – some unique – that certainly can aid users with agility. However, to be fair, other platforms also provide features and functions to aid with agility. Despite that, Enuit is striving in the right direction and when combined with its all new Enuit 7 platform capabilities, it certainly is staying competitive.
