Phlo Systems Targets HMRC and Dutch Customs Assistance with tradePhlo
Phlo systems offers a solution to help manage customs requirements from and to the UK or the Netherlands via TradePhlo, an AI-driven platform for self-declaration or managed declaration. I had never seen a customs solution and so I wondered what it was and how it worked. To find out, I talked with Neil Morrow, Account Director for tradePhlo over at Phlo Systems about the problem and its’ solution. “The solution was built to assist businesses that needed to manage HMRC requirements in the UK originally and has now been extended to include Netherlands customs as well,” Neil told me.
It is currently used by hundreds of companies, including channel partners, bringing commodities and products into the UK including traders, brokers, and others moving goods in and out of the UK. Indeed, as Neil said, Phlo acts as a broker in this regard as well and can offer operational outsourcing for a client for multiple ports around the UK. Recently, it has been extended to cater for Netherlands customs as well. “This is also starting to gain traction and build trust in that market,” Neil said.
According to Phlo’s website, tradePhlo is ‘a cloud-based platform designed to simplify international customs clearance and inventory management processes. With a range of innovative solutions, tradePhlo empowers businesses to efficiently manage their air, land and sea trade operations, ensuring compliance, reducing errors, and improving supply chain visibility.’ It allows customers to achieve compliance around moving products in and out of the UK and Netherlands, and allows customers to save time by remembering previous declarations to re-use in the future, he said. The solution uses ChatGPT to help guide users including aiding with things like code searches. The solution also connects directly with the HMRC test environment allowing users to test submissions and if they are OK, move them into the live environment. Neil sees this as a differentiator as most solutions require retyping in the live environment.
The solution is SaaS and in the cloud. Subscriptions are keenly priced, Neil said and it is priced per business as opposed to per user. “tradePhlo is a powerful and versatile solution provisioned to meet the diverse demands of importer, exporters, hauliers, freight forwarders, transport companies and the customs intermediary’s sector. tradePhlo capabilities provide great value and a competitive edge to today’s fast-paced and competitive business landscape,” he explained. For Neil, other Phlo Systems advantages includes its agile development approach, which allows adaption of the platform based on client feedback and market needs. It also includes AI-assisted commodity code search, direct connection to HMRC test environment and chat support. It also supports all modes of transportation and all UK and NL ports. It is targeted at small to medium sized firms and priced accordingly, Neil states.
