Square Four Steps Out
Last week I spoke, for the first time, to Square Four SA, a Geneva-based vendor (it markets the Nova Trading System) that has long been on our radar screen. Square Four SA has been in business since 2001 and was conceived even prior to that date, I was informed, so it is already a long-term player in CTRM software. The vendor is plainly seeking to raise its profile and accessibility having sold its software solution on a recommendation basis only in the past.
It started out in the oil space but has evolved to cover natural gas, and ags & softs like grains, sugar and so on via its software – Nova. It does not support electric power nor minerals, they said. It and its team are all based in Geneva, and I spoke with Eric Vouaillat, Founder & CEO, and Brice Cesbron, Project and Account manager, to learn more.
A visit to its website reveals an all-new website with a lot of useful information about the company and its software and services. A new website isn’t all however, as the company is also rolling out its latest .Net version of The Nova Trading System module by module with the final delivery scheduled very shortly. It also has a revisit of the UX scheduled for this year along with enhancements to support the EU ETS and other functions and features, I was told.
Nova has an installed base in double figures – between 10 and 20 – and it includes some notable names. Uses are global and it has customers in all geographies. It is a modular system that is delivered as the same source code to all customers and can be configured to cater for different requirements. It can be deployed in the cloud or on premises and runs on any device. I will be receiving a demonstration, but Brice was keen to point out some key features including instant PnL and positions, full audit trailing, tested security, and an extremely usable UI. In fact, despite reworking the UI to make it even more user friendly, he said that the UI was among the key reasons that users continually recommended it to others. It includes all the functionality you might expect from trading through operations, finance, treasury, reporting, document management to audit and incorporates many interfaces to things like ebanking, Komgo, BI and so on, they said.
Plainly, Square Four is ready to increase its visibility in and communication with the market and I’m looking forward to learning more shortly with a demonstration of the solution itself.
