Work Starts on The European Regulatory Study
If all had gone to plan, I would be sat on a beach in Florida today looking at two-weeks of sun, sea and Disney. As it turned out, my daughter developed chickenpox just 24-hours prior to our flight so instead, I am busy working on our European Regulatory Study with Aviv Handler of ETR Advisory. My vacation has been moved back a couple of weeks so all is not lost and the European Regulatory environment is intriguing so no real complaints!
Regulations such as EMIR and REMIT are going to have an impact on the industry the issue is that many questions still remain even late in the day about the details of these regulations. Delays are occurring, more may be inevitable but, at the end of the day, it is possible that some of the requirements will be back dated. These regulations will be onerous enough but backdating of some of the requirements will simply increase their complexity and disruptiveness. The idea of of our study then is to take a look at where we stand today and where some of this uncertainty lies. We will look at how this impacts traders but we will also look at the solution provider side and see what they have to offer and how they may also be impacted.
The report is likely to be issued in two parts. The first part will deal with the regulations, the issues and the the technology providers and solutions while the second part, which may be a lot later, will deal with the results of our associated survey of the industry. The study is being conducted by ComTech Advisory in partnership with ETR Advisory and is currently kindly sponsored by TriOptima. Further details on the study (participation, sponsorship and advertising in the study report) can be obtained from me at gvasey at comtechadvisory dot com.
