Decarbonisation to change the energy market for good
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
7 September 2022, London: 2021 ended with the energy sector largely optimistic about the following year: COP26 targets had been announced, and the looming energy crisis was expected to last around six months. In the Energy Trading Week 2021 survey, 57% of over 1700 respondents saw decarbonisation as the greatest change in energy trading in the next 5 years, and during panels at the in-person event, most participants agreed governments and regulators are expected to intervene more if COP26 targets were to be met. With further global upheaval occurring at the start of 2022, these plans were quickly derailed as unexpected pressures shifted the industry’s outlook.
This year, the energy industry will be gathering at London’s Energy Trading Week 2022, the premiere global conference, organised by Commodities People. This event, which spans the 28th to the 29th of September, will host a series of discussions focusing primarily on regulations, trading in a high-price environment, and technology. The industry will meet to discuss the collective learnings of the past 6 months, and how the future under these current volatile circumstances might look. Some of the companies attending will be:
- Shell Trading
- EFET
- Regulatory Authority for Energy
- Maersk Oil Trading and Investments
- BP
- ICIS
- Brady Technologies
Ben Hillary, CEO of Commodities People, said: “The energy world has seen the most pressure in the past few months due to its reliance on Russian oil, high prices and new regulations. For this reason, this year’s event will focus on regulations. Energy Trading Week is the perfect opportunity for leaders in the wider industry to meet in-person and discuss the future of energy trading. We expect a high attendance and have secured some of the world’s largest companies on the panels, aiming to provide attendees with actionable knowledge.”
The Energy Trading Week events have become known as must-attend events for those in the industry and are a great place for the entire energy trading community to come together. In times of market stress, it is even more valuable for industry players to come together and have a shared vision of the present and future changes that need implementing.
