UK energy shortage & green energy focus at Energy Trading Week 2021

4 Oct 2021, London: The Head of Smart Grids & PPAS at Ecotricity, Mark Meyrick, expects the UK energy market to continue its shift towards renewable energy despite recent challenges, as the demand for green and deep green energy offerings continues to evolve. As the market landscape is changing and more people start understanding what green energy is, consumers and manufacturers are predicted to move away from traditional offerings to true renewable energy, including the increased use of hydrogen and a variety of grid ancillary service offerings. This is a particularly timely topic because of the energy challenges the UK is currently experiencing and a much greater emphasis on providing low-carbon solutions, along with a shift towards green energy.

Ecotricity is the leading British green energy company aiming to transform the energy sector within the UK and will feature in discussions at the upcoming 2021 Energy Trading Week. At the heart of its mission is the fight against climate change and the goal of moving the UK away from fossil fuels and towards a greener solution – renewable electricity and gas.

Mark Meyrick, Head of Smart Grids & PPAS of Ecotricity, will be on a panel discussing the rapid rise of the environmental markets and its impact on the energy and commodity industries. Meyrick commented: “I expect people to start to understand what ‘green energy’ really is, as fossil derived power backed by REGOs and described as ‘renewable’ power finally gets shown up for being the greenwash that it is, and consumers wake up to that.”

At the event there will also be the chance to get involved with discussions around the current energy crisis, including:

  • ‘Winter is coming’ – the 21/22 winter outlook and market impact scenarios, predicting the unpredictable and optimising your forecasting
  • ‘Flexibility and storage markets’ – latest developments and trading strategies, including the roles of flex and storage in ongoing market volatility
  • ‘Current Trading Environment’ – challenges and opportunities.

The 2021 Energy Trading Week is just around the corner, and this year it will take place in a hybrid format, featuring both an in-person and an online event from 5th through to the 15th October. The event, run by leading events organiser for the energy and commodity markets Commodities People, will focus, among other topics, on the growth and evolution of the green energy market both in the UK and around the globe.
